Women's Bean Project Sugar & Spice Gift Basket Review and Giveaway

Jossy Eyre founded the Women's Bean Project in 1989 as a result of her volunteer work at a day shelter for homeless women. Eyre saw that while the shelter kept women safe, if could not help them make lasting changes in their lives. Eyre bought $500 worth of beans and put two homeless women to work - the first step in building the social enterprise we are today. Their training opportunities have expanded dramatically over the years, and annual operating budget has grown from $6,100 to over $1.5 million.

The Women's Bean Project have been helping women break the cycle of poverty and unemployment.

They are a nonprofit organization that teaches job readiness and life skills for entry-level jobs through employment in their gourmet food production and handmade jewelry manufacturing businesses.

Women come with the goal of transforming their lives and moving toward self sufficiency.

The Women's Bean Project is a social enterprise that offers a transitional job in gourmet food manufacturing designed to provide immediate income, arrange support services to overcome barriers to employment, and teach the job readiness skills needed to get and keep a job.

Program participants come from backgrounds of chronic unemployment and poverty, and the program helps them develop the work and interpersonal skills needed to function independently in the workplace and community.

Women's Bean Project products are prepared and packaged with care by their Program Participants. With each purchase, you're helping women break the cycle of poverty and chronic unemployment.

The Women's Bean Project could not function without many forms of community support. While their business provides the context for the training that they provide, sales revenues only cover about 74% of the total operating expenses of the Bean Project. Generous contributions of time, products, services, and money allow them to offer the comprehensive and effective programming that sets the Bean Project apart from other employment training programs.

My Thoughts~!!

This is a wonderful idea for promoting confidence and instituting workplace practice.  I love the concept that everything is hand packaged with care, each of the packages I received were labelled with permanent marker in the person's name that helped put my basket together!!  Thank you Cynthia, April and Anita for your dedication and making me feel special~!!

The family and I had a chance to review their Sugar and Spice Gift Basket and found everything inside was well-presented.  We were able to make Snickerdoodle and Oatmeal Chocolate Chip cookies, as well as, Chocolate Brownies...yum yum yummers~!!  Also included with the basket, we found a package of jelly beans, which my wee ones shared and gobbled with their friends.  Their Peach Mango and Raspberry Lemongrass Tea finished off the package nicely.  The kids just loved the tea, iced, especially the Peach Mango flavoured.

We found the recipes listed on the packages to be very easy to follow and everything but the eggs and butter are included to ensure you make yourself the yummiest tasting goodies imaginable!!  Everything we made from this basket was scrumptious...we even shared the Snickerdoodles with the neighbour children and they were clamouring for more...that's 22 kids who thought they were the BEST they had tasted~!!  Can't beat statistics like that...LOL

Jennifer, One Day At A Time and the groovy folks at The Bean Project would love to offer one of our readers the very same gift basket that my family and myself reviewed~!!

Included in this basket:
Snickerdoodle Cookie Mix
Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookie Mix
Chocolate Brownie Mix
Package of Jelly Beans
6 oz. package of Raspberry Lemongrass Tea
6 oz. package Peach Mango Tea
Retail Value= $38.00
