My Journey To Becoming A Mayan Shaman by Zachary Alexander Jezek

My Journey To Becoming A Mayan Shaman is ten year old Zachary Jezek's journey to becoming a Mayan Shaman.

Zachary is an extremely self-motivated and self-disciplined child as he takes on his quest to become a Mayan Shaman.  Along his journey he meets many interesting people who help him achieve his goals.

Zachary has always known he was blessed and he wishes to take these thoughts of his and become a helper and a healer.  Wishing for everyone to live in peace and harmony he also focuses his learning with the art of Reiki, yoga, fencing and is in a 100% living foods diet.  As long as he can remember, he has always wanted to be a 'Medicine Man' and never the warrior.

We share with Zachary his journey from Oregon to Costa Rica to Belize as we watch him grow and experience all he needs to in order to become a Shaman.  We read of the people who helped him along his way, such as his mother who is an integral part of this whole story.  Zachary utilizes his strength, determination and courage to walk the path set before him.

This small 56 page book would be a great gift to give to those young people who have a different light on Earth, those who wish to heal instead of harm.  There are loads of colour photo's spread throughout the books pages, showing you Zachary's progress as well as, historical references to the Mayan people themselves.

I thought this was a well documented journal of Zachary's accomplishments.  I really enjoyed the easy flow of the narrative and the photos that appeared on almost every page was a great addition to his journey.  I liked the easy to read concept of the story and the encouraging words shared.

I enjoyed reading his thoughts, his worries and his goals.  We watch as he collects his pieces of his "art", all of the feathers, stones and items that have special meaning and are required as part of his medicine pouch.  Zachary's words of encouragement shared throughout was refreshing to read and I found the whole book encouraging from start to finish.

I believe everyone should be able to practice whatever religion they wish, as long as it harms no one and Zachary impresses upon the reader that it is okay to wish to be a healer, enjoy nature and be respectful to everyone around you.  So many children these days are hung up on their technological gadgets that Zachary's story is extremely impressive in that he hasn't fallen into that trap and mayhaps, with his vision, he will be able to express himself and encourage other children to reach out and do the same.  Zachary's message, that there is more to life than the dead-end path many are following, if only you would open your heart and mind to the possibilities, is refreshing and heartening to hear.

I would recommend this to every parent who wishes more from their children, this book is encouraging to the fact that it is possible.  I wish Zachary and children like him all the best on their paths in life and my express desire would be for more children to hear this message and apply it to their own, everyday lives.
