I recently discovered a new building toy that combines the versatility of blocks, and the sturdiness of legos - Locktagons from Patch Products.
Locktagons are flat plastic pieces that come in 3 different shapes (rectangle, square, and octagon). Each piece has slits which allows the Locktagons to be interlocked to create fun 3D structures.
Because the pieces have to be slid together, I didn't know how easy they would be for my 4 year old to use. But she loved them. She sat right down and made a huge arch to go over my castle.
My husband loved them too. We brought the Locktagons to one of our Thanksgiving dinners, and after building his signature robot,
my husband sat down with his brother and had a weapon battle. My husband actually built a working disc shooter with full hand armor.
The interlocking slits make the structures very sturdy, My 18 month old tackled our castle with very little damage. I also really like that each Locktagon shape has a different number of slits on each side. This allows for greater versatility in the type of structures that can be built.
To Buy It - I would definitely recommend Locktagons to anyone looking for a great construction toy. And If your kids aren't interested in building blocks, Patch Products also carries a variety of other products including science toys and puzzles for kids. They even carry 3D Puzzles that contain hidden pictures that can only be seen with special glasses.
And for a great stocking stuffer, check out their selection of kids coloring books that retail at only $1.25.
