Ella Enchanted by Gail Carson Levine

Ella Enchanted (Trophy Newbery) by Gail Carson Levine

Gail Carson Levine is a very good writer. She writes children's fairy tales and her books are very funny. Ella Enchanted the book is much better than the movie version - which I still love. Ella and the Prince are both more likable in the book and there is no uncle trying to take over the kingdom. The story concentrates more on each character as an individual and the relationship between each. It's also funnier. It's just a really good fairy tale.

At her birth, Ella of Frell was cursed with the gift of obedience. Everything anyone tells her to do, she must. Ella is determined to break the curse, so she runs away from finishing school in order to find the fairy that blessed her with the gift. After facing wicked stepsisters, ogres, giants, elves, and charming princes, Ella discovers that the only one who has the power to break the curse is herself. Can Ella break the curse before she puts the entire kingdom at risk, or will the kingdom be forever in danger?
